In a landmark step toward simplifying music licensing in India, Sangeet Dwar has been soft-launched as a unified, digital one-window platform designed to streamline permissions for on-ground public music performances across the country.
Created as a collaborative initiative of key music licensing bodies including IPRS, PPL, NOVEX and RMPL and supported by industry associations, the platform represents an unprecedented alignment within India’s music ecosystem.
Sangeet Dwar enables event organizers, venues, wedding planners, corporates, and institutions to obtain public performance licenses through a seamless online interface. Instead of navigating multiple agencies separately, users can now secure permissions for live and recorded music use at events, festivals, hospitality spaces, and social gatherings through a single digital process. The initiative reflects India’s broader push toward ease of doing business and digital governance, aligning with the vision of simplifying compliance through technology-led solutions.
Legendary vocalist and Padma Shri awardee Anup Jalota, who has been closely associated with the industry working group behind the initiative, said, “Sangeet Dwar is a progressive step for India’s creative economy. By making licensing transparent and accessible, we are not only supporting event organizers but also ensuring that rightful compensation reaches singers, composers, musicians, and copyright holders.”
Adding to this, Sanjay Tandon, Founder of ISAMRA and a key figure to bring about this historic moment emphasized the long-term impact on artists and music industry. “For years, performers and musicians have struggled with the lack of structured compliance in public music usage. Composers, Writers, Publishers & Sound Recording holders have not been receiving fair Royalties from the usage of the music IP they created & invested in. Sangeet Dwar is a major corrective step. It creates awareness, simplifies the process, and most importantly, strengthens royalty flows to the very artists whose voices and performances power these events. Its a platform allowing users of music to get ease of doing business “
Industry estimates suggest that a significant percentage of public performances in India operate without proper licensing, resulting in revenue losses across the creative value chain. From singers and musicians to composers and producers, stakeholders often remain uncompensated when music is used without authorization. Sangeet Dwar aims to change that by simplifying the licensing journey, improving transparency in fee structures, encouraging voluntary compliance, and strengthening royalty flows to rights holders.
By centralizing access, the platform reduces confusion for event managers while protecting the intellectual property of creators. This balanced approach ensures that India’s vibrant music culture, from weddings and concerts to corporate shows and cultural festivals, continues to thrive within a lawful and sustainable ecosystem.
The Sangeet Dwar portal is now live and available at https://vasantsangeetdwar.in/
Sangeet Dwar is India’s first integrated digital gateway for public performance music licensing, developed through the joint efforts of leading music rights and licensing organizations to enable ease of compliance while safeguarding the rights of creators.
