Long before he was Founder and CEO of Hind Airlines, he was a boy in a small village outside Darbhanga, watching planes disappear into a sky he had never touched. That distance between where he stood and where the aircraft were headed became the question that has quietly driven every year since: what would it take to close that gap, for people who look like the people I grew up with?
Today, that question has a name: Hind Airlines.
A Dream Rooted in Distance
For millions of families across Bihar and towns like it, an airport is not a convenience it is a rare and precious thing. A flight ticket can mean a father making it home for a wedding, a daughter reaching a job interview on time, a patient reaching a hospital before it’s too late.
Amit Kumar grew up understanding that distance in India is rarely just measured in kilometers. It is measured in access.
“I didn’t grow up dreaming of owning an airline,” Kumar says. “I grew up dreaming of my village having a way out and a way back. Hind Airlines is my answer to that. I want it to be the airline that remembers where its founder came from, in every route it flies and every passenger it welcomes on board.”
Carrying Bihar into the Sky
Kumar is candid that this is a long and difficult road aviation asks for patience, capital, regulatory discipline, and years of quiet groundwork before a single aircraft leaves the tarmac. Hind Airlines is still in its early, foundational stage: building its team, its partnerships, and the operational backbone that any credible airline must have before it earns the right to fly.
But he is equally candid about why he’s doing it anyway.
“Bihar has given India some of its hardest-working, most resilient people and some of the least access to opportunity. I want Hind Airlines to be proof that the two don’t have to stay disconnected. Every step we take toward getting this airline into the sky is a step I’m taking on behalf of a village that once felt very far from everywhere else.”
What Hind Airlines Hopes to Become
The vision, as Kumar describes it, goes beyond routes and schedules:
- Connectivity that includes, not just serves: – prioritizing the smaller cities and underserved regions that larger carriers often overlook.

- A brand that feels personal: – an airline that a family in Darbhanga or Muzaffarpur can feel is theirs, not just another logo on a tail fin.
The Long Runway Ahead
Kumar is clear-eyed that dreams and operating certificates are not the same thing, and that the distance between them is exactly where the real work happens.
“I’m not asking anyone to believe Hind Airlines has arrived. I’m asking them to watch us build it, step by step, the right way. My village taught me that nothing worth having comes without a wait. I’ve made peace with the wait. I just refuse to give up on the destination.”
From a home where the lights sometimes failed, to a mission built on lifting people up Amit Kumar’s journey with Hind Airlines is, in his words, “still on the runway.” But for a founder who has already come this far from where he started, that runway looks a lot like progress.
