Oxford International College, Indore Celebrates Five-Day Pharmacy Week with a Strong Message on Antibiotic Resistance

Oxford International College,Indore — The Department of Pharmacy at Oxford International College, encompassing D. Pharm, B. Pharm, M. Pharm and Pharmaceutical Management (MBA) programmes, organized a vibrant and educational five-day Pharmacy Week and Invocation Ceremony celebration centered around the important theme of “Antibiotic Resistance: Awareness, Prevention and Responsible Use.”

The five-day celebration aimed to create awareness among students and the wider community about the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance and the crucial role of pharmacists and healthcare professionals in promoting the rational and responsible use of antibiotics.

The programme commenced with an impressive inaugural ceremony, graced by Mr. Srikant Pande, Plant Head, IPCA Laboratories, Ratlam, and Ms. Nupur Shah, CEO, Cyno Pharma Pvt. Ltd., as distinguished guests. Their presence added immense value to the programme and provided students with an opportunity to interact with experienced professionals from the pharmaceutical industry.

During the inaugural session, the dignitaries emphasized the importance of pharmaceutical education, professional ethics, responsible use of medicines and the need for continuous awareness regarding antibiotic resistance. Students were encouraged to understand that antibiotics are valuable medicines and that their inappropriate or unnecessary use can contribute significantly to the development of resistant microorganisms.

A major highlight of the celebration was an Antibiotic Resistance Awareness Rally, in which students actively participated with enthusiasm and commitment. Through posters, slogans and awareness messages, the students conveyed the importance of avoiding unnecessary antibiotic use, following prescriptions properly and preventing the spread of antimicrobial resistance. The rally reflected the institution’s commitment to taking pharmaceutical education beyond the classroom and connecting it with community awareness.

Along with academic and awareness-oriented activities, the Pharmacy Week celebration provided students with a platform to demonstrate their talent, creativity, leadership and team spirit. A wide range of cultural, recreational and sporting activities were organized, including cricket, chess, carrom, competition, Treasure Hunt and food stalls. Students from different programmes participated enthusiastically, creating an atmosphere of healthy competition, camaraderie and celebration.

Another important academic session was an insightful lecture delivered by Dr. Renu Sharma, Gynaecologist and Oncology Surgeon, HCG Hospital, who addressed students on the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), its health implications, prevention and the importance of awareness. The session provided students with valuable information about HPV-related health concerns and encouraged them to become responsible health educators within society.

The entire five-day celebration successfully brought together academic learning, professional interaction, public health awareness, cultural expression and extracurricular activities, providing students with a holistic educational experience.

The programme was conducted under the guidance and leadership of Group Director Dr. Punit Kumar Dwivedi, Principal Dr. Mahavir Chhajed, Head of Pharmaceutical Management Dr. Neha Sharma, and Head of the M. Pharm Department Dr. Abhimanyu Singh Rathore. The successful execution of the various activities was supported by faculty members Mr Manoj Mandloi Mrs. Jyoti Yadav, Mrs. Pooja Sinha, and other faculty members of the Pharmacy Department.

The celebration concluded with a dignified Valedictory Ceremony, graced by Dr. Rajesh Dandotiya, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Cyber Crime, and Dr. Sandeep Atre, Psychologist, as distinguished guests. The guests interacted with the students and highlighted the importance of discipline, responsible citizenship, mental well-being, professional ethics and continuous learning.

As part of the closing ceremony, students who demonstrated excellence and enthusiastic participation in various competitions and activities were felicitated with medals and certificates. The recognition encouraged students to continue participating actively in academic, cultural, sporting and social-awareness initiatives.

The valedictory programme was attended by Group Chairman Adv. Akshanshu Tiwari, Director Dr. Punit Kumar Dwivedi, Principal Dr. Mahavir Chhajed, Head of Pharmaceutical Management Dr. Neha Sharma, faculty members and students.

The five-day Pharmacy Week celebration concluded with a strong message that pharmacy education is not limited to medicines and laboratories; it also carries a responsibility towards public health and society. Through awareness activities such as the Antibiotic Resistance Rally, expert lectures, cultural programmes and sports competitions, Oxford International College provided students with an enriching platform to learn, participate, lead and contribute towards a healthier and more informed society.
